Cross tabulation

Select Calculate > Cross tabulate (XTAB) to create a cross table. The XTAB function, available in all RDE and extract files, provides a mechanism to analyse your data rather like Pivot tables in Microsoft Excel.

Cross table results are based on selected row and column fields. An example would be one row per family and columns for each COUNTRY name. Cell value content can be matching row x column record totals or may be based on a third field as selected e.g. for each species x plot, calculate the min, max or average DBH value.

An example XTAB showing number of collections per month for Podocarpus

In the above example, the table will include one row per family with columns for each different genus. As this table is created in the taxon extract file, the data cells count the numbers of species per genus.

XTAB results are created in extract files registered in the extract file manager opened using Extracts > Recent saved files > Last xTAB analysis.

Create a cross table that lists the number of collections per species per country, based on the current botanical record extract file.

The result can be viewed using the Quick view option on the form. But to view the result as a proper BRAHMS table, close the form and extract file. Then select Extracts > Recent saved files > Last xTAB analysis.

You can also open the file in the extract file manager using Extracts > Extract file manager. Note that when created XTABs you can choose extracts number from 1 through to 9.
