Introduction

The distribution / diversity analysis options are located on the main DistDiv menu option which can be enabled using Utilities > My Setup/Profile > Active modules.

The purpose of the DistDiv options is to calculate and display summary data about the distribution of taxa and optionally summarize diversity indicators per area. Data can be style set and mapped directly from BRAHMS to Google Earth and other GIS.

Summaries display one record for each different TAXON x AREA. Example summaries are 'family x country', 'genus x country' and 'species x gridcell'. Thus, in the last example, if the grid cells were set to 1 degree square, the function would generate a table with a separate records for each degree square x species combination - and thus facilitate an analysis comparing the contents of degree squares.

The data sources used for the summary can be chosen. The selection 'All taxa x Global' would  produce 1 record for the entire database.

Taxa may be grouped on a user-defined field, for example a species link file field SECTION or MYTAXGRPS.

For each entry in the DistDiv table, totals are provided as relevant (e.g. total vouchers, observations, sample plots, sample records, seed records, living collections). Minimum and maximum values are provided for altitude, lat/long, collection year and various further fields that are relevant to the selected data.

Additional fields can be added into the calculated table from your species file, species link file, the gazetteer and sample plot headers.

Presence/absence or abundance data in the summary table can be exported to PC-ORD for multivariate analysis.
