Creating a DST summary table

To calculate the taxon distribution table, select DistDiv >  Create/View DistDiv table for current database.

Note: if one or more entries in your taxon files do not have taxon quick codes, you will be prompted to auto-generate these using the Tools options provided.

Select Tools > Re-calculate species distribution table or the reCalc toolbar option. This open the form shown below.

The selection shown in the above sample DistDiv screen will scan vouchered collections, field observations and sample plot records and add one record to the summary table for each Species+infra X 1/10 degree cell.

Example results table for a Genus x Country summary. In this example, a filter has been set on the genus Araucaria.

Data sources may include any of the following:

You can restrict the calculation using the options provided. For example, if you extract botanical records from a country, you could select the Data restriction option Extracted botanical records. to narrow down (and speed up) the calculation.

You can additionally refer to TDWG codes stored in the TDWG memo field in the main species file. But bear in mind, unlike the other data sources, TDWG codes cannot have precise map references as they represent areas.

Data can then be summarized by:

This is combined with a geographic selection:

Grid cells (discussed in separate help section) can be combined with another  geographic selection e.g. Country + Gridcell.

When records are added, the following calculated fields are added as relevant for each table entry:

Vouchers: number of vouchers

Obs: number of field observations

Plots: number of sample plots

Samplerecs: number of individual records located in all plots

tdwgrecs: number of TDGW regions

altmin: min altitude for data set

altmax: max altitude for data set

earliest: first year of voucher/obs collection

latest: last year of voucher/obs collection

latmin/max: min and max latititude (decimal degree)

longmin/max: min and max longitude (decimal degree)

Further fields are provided for grid cell analysis - see separate section.
