Sample data files

Sample plot data are stored in separate files as registered in the sample plot header file DATAFILE field, located in the folder specified for the relevant data category.

Note that data held in these files, unlike RDE files, are never transferred into BRAHMS - they remain as external data files.

As with header files, data file structure can be edited. Required data file fields in file are explained below:

In this example, the data file includes the minimum number of fields, simply indicating the presence of species in a plot with SCODE = 10. The addition of the text field 'SPECIES' makes the data file easier to edit and check.

In the above forest inventory example, the data file includes text species fields and various measurement fields (e.g. DBH, X/Y coordinates). Some field in this file are calculated usingf function provided (e.g. VOLUME and BASAL).

Field naming conventions

The following fields have special calculation functions built into BRAHMS. Tus, use the standard field names

Tree (or plant) diamter: DBH

Tree (or plant) circumference: CIRC

Basal area: BASAL

Volume: VOLUME

Viewing header files

When view a datafile, you can use the toolbar to open the header file at the top of the screen.

Multiple plots per data file

A single data file can include records from many different plots as explained in the relevant header file section.

In the above example, the data file includes records for SCODE values 1 and 2. A single data file may include record for 100's of different plots.
