Keyboard shortcuts

Many functions in BRAHMS can be executed using a function key rather than a mouse click. For routine activities, this can speed up your work - FOR EXAMPLE ALT+X to close any data screen, F6 to tag/untag records and Ctrl+M to open a memo field. 

The short cut and function key template is available as a word document in the folder Brahms6 / Template / Function Key Template.

Select View > Show shortcut and function key help to view the floating template help screen. This screen can be dragged off the BRAHMS application.

Function key assignments

F1 for Help

Note that if you set Admin > Project configuration > System settings > File locations > Help file location to the downloaded BRAHMS CHM help file, this help file is opened with F1.

General Windows stuff

• ALT+TAB to switch to next program.
• CTRL+ESC to activate Windows Start menu
• Windows key + E to activate Windows explorer
• PRNT SCRN  to copy a picture of the screen to the Clipboard.
• ALT+PRINT SCREEN   to copy a picture of the selected window to the Clipboard.

Menus and dialogues

• F10 with no data screen open activates the system menu
• ALT + underlined menu letter activates the system menu. Thus ALT+F opens the File menu (English version), ALT+Q opens Arquivo in portuguese version).
• ALT + underlined letter on command button clicks button.

BRAHMS data grid functions

• F1: Help
• SHIFT+F1: Open shortcuts template
• CTRL+F1: Find
• ALT+F1 or ALT+A:  Add a record

• F2: Open a form
• CTRL+F2: FoxPro commands

• F3: Open a datafile
• ALT+F3 or ALT+X: Close current screen

• F4: Copy above field to current field in RDE file
• CTRL+F4: Copy current record to newly append record
• ALT+F4: Copy fields based on your field copy settings but rather than adding a new record, will skip to the next record in the file and copy in the fields accordingly.

• F5: Advanced sort commands
• SHIFT+F5: Sort ascending
• Alt+F5: Clear sort (records in natural order)

• F6: Tag toggle
• Shift+F6: tag all
• CTRL+F6: count tagged
• ALT+F6: clear tags

• F7: Delete toggle

• F8: Define field views
• SHIFT+F8: Autofit columns
• CTRL+F8: Reduce column width
• ALT+F8: Increase column width

• F9: Lookup functions (Also right-click in field)
• SHIFT+F9: Lookup external file

• CTRL+F10 or CTRL+Z: Zoom toggle

• F11: Advanced filter commands
• SHIFT+F11: Filter on selected
• CTRL+F11: Filter iuncludes selection
• Alt+F11: Clear filters

• F12: Goto first column in data grid
• SHIFT+F12: Goto last column

• CTRL+I  Open image linker
• CTRL+Z Zoom toggle

Memo field functions in data grids

• CTRL+M Open current memo field in memo editor
• CTRL+W Save and close edited memo field
• ESC Close memo field without saving edits
• CTRL+HOME Open memo field in plain window
