Welcome to the Department of Plant Sciences

The Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Oxford is one of the leading UK university departments dedicated to research and teaching in plant and fungal biology. The department consists of 28 academic staff and independent research fellows and approximately 60 postdoctoral researchers and D. Phil. students supported by some 40 technicians and administrative staff. The department also houses the Oxford University Herbaria and has close links with the University of Oxford Botanic Garden.

Research in the department is organised into three main research groups:

Teaching

In conjunction with the Department of Zoology, an integrated undergraduate programme in biology is provided. In the most recent review by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, the department was given top marks of 24 out of 24 for teaching quality.

“Plants for the 21st Century”

Our “Plants for the 21st Century” departmental fundraising campaign launched with the aim of supporting research activities in crop science, forestry and conservation ecology.
