Ensuring food and fuel security
in the 21st century is a major global challenge that requires innovative
research in plant sciences. The
Plants for the 21st Century Institute (P21C) is a translational
research institute embedded within the Oxford Plant Sciences Department and is a
member of the Oxford Martin
School.
P21C research programs address questions in three main areas of global concern -
Crop Production,
Species Conservation
and Forest Management.
Each of the programs aims to generate scientific resources and information that
will enable policy makers, conservation biologists, multinational companies and
individuals to use land in a way that will maximize crop outputs, protect 'hotspots'
of species diversity and ensure that forests are maintained in a sustainable manner.
